High Voltage 10kv/0.4kv 500kVA Transformer with Low Voltage Options

10kV/0.4kV, 500kVA is a commonly used specification in power distribution systems. The primary side receives a 10kV high voltage input, and the secondary side outputs a 0.4kV (380V/220V) low voltage. The rated capacity is 500kVA. It is mostly used for power distribution in industrial plants, commercial buildings, and residential areas. It can be matched with either dry-type or oil-immersed-type structures (dry-type is preferred, suitable for indoor scenarios).

A dry-type transformer is a type of transformer that does not use liquid cooling agents. Unlike traditional oil-immersed transformers, dry-type transformers use air as the cooling medium, thus eliminating the safety hazards such as oil leakage and explosion. At the same time, dry-type transformers also have the advantages of simple structure and convenient maintenance, making them widely used in various industries. The main components of a dry-type transformer include the main wiring, high and low voltage windings, core, and insulating materials. The main wiring of a dry-type transformer is usually made of high-purity copper or aluminum, capable of withstanding high temperatures and high currents.It is widely used in local lighting, high-rise buildings, airports, docks, CNC mechanical equipment and other places. In simple terms, a dry-type transformer refers to a transformer whose core and windings are not impregnated with insulating oil.


Transformer normal service conditions

1.The height above the sea level is below 1000m;

2.Highest air temperature +40ºC;

3.Highest daily average air temperature+30ºC;

4.Highest annual average air temperature +20ºC;

5.Lowest outdoor air temperature -5ºC.

Type of cooling
The cooling methods are divided into natural air cooling (AN) and forced air cooling (AF). During natural air cooling, the transformer can operate continuously at the rated capacity for a long time. When using forced air cooling, the output capacity of the transformer can be increased by 50%. This method is suitable for intermittent overload operation or emergency accident overload operation; however, due to the significant increase in load loss and impedance voltage during overload, it is in an uneconomical operating state, so it should not be allowed to operate under long-term continuous overload conditions.

Structure type
The core is mainly composed of silicon steel sheets and the coils are epoxy resin cast. Insulating tubes are placed between the high and low voltage coils to enhance electrical insulation, and the coils are supported and constrained by pads. The fasteners for the components that are connected together have anti-loosening properties.

2.Unencapsulated windings
The windings: Among the two windings, the one with higher voltage is the high-voltage winding, and the one with lower voltage is the low-voltage winding.
From the relative positions of the high and low voltage windings, high voltage can be divided into concentric type and overlapping type.
Concentric windings are simple and easy to manufacture, and this structure is adopted in all cases.

Flame-retardant self-extinguishing: The epoxy resin casted windings have self-extinguishing properties, and they do not contribute to combustion or produce toxic gases during short-circuit faults.
Applicable scenarios: High-rise buildings, subways, hospitals, airports, data centers, chemical plants, mines, etc., where fire and explosion prevention requirements are extremely high.
2. Environmentally friendly and pollution-free
No risk of oil leakage polluting soil and water sources, and the disposal after use is simple and environmentally friendly.
No oil mist or odor during operation, suitable for clean environments such as food and medicine.
3. Extremely low maintenance cost (almost maintenance-free)
No need for regular oil quality testing, oil filtration, oil replacement, or handling of leaks.
Daily maintenance only requires cleaning dust and checking connections, with annual maintenance costs being 1/3 to 1/2 of oil-immersed type.
No oil reservoirs, breathing apparatuses, gas relays, etc., with few fault points.
4. Flexible installation and space-saving
Small size, light weight: At the same capacity, the volume is about 40% smaller than oil-immersed type, and the weight is over 30% lighter.
Can be installed close to the load center: Directly placed in the distribution room or floor shaft, shortening low-voltage cables and reducing line losses.
No special foundation or orientation requirements: No need for oil-immersed chambers or fire barriers, with high flexibility in layout.
5. Strong environmental adaptability
Resistant to moisture, dust, and pollution: The cast structure can operate stably in high humidity (99% RH), dusty, salt fog, coastal, and mining environments.
High temperature rating: Commonly F class (155°C) and H class (180°C), with strong short-circuit overload capacity.
Good short-circuit resistance: The overall cast structure has high mechanical strength and can withstand sudden short-circuit impacts.
6. Reliable operation and long lifespan
No oil quality deterioration, slow insulation aging, and the design lifespan can reach 25-30 years.
Intelligent temperature control (PT100) monitors the winding temperature in real time, automatically cooling or alarming in case of over-temperature, avoiding aging due to overheating.
7. Low noise and high efficiency
Noise is approximately 45-55 dB when cooled naturally, lower than oil-immersed type (60-70 dB).
Low loss, high efficiency, and more energy-saving in long-term operation.
